Place and time: New York, the Île de France passenger ship , Paris. 1924.
When you find something to love, you don't necessarily have to ask about class, intent or past. Mr. Esmond Sr. is doing this because his son wants to get married.
The couple is already at the port, ready to leave for Europe, when Gus Esmond is called back. The invention of the zipper threatens the company's own button manufacturing. Lorelei Lee now has to sail across the Atlantic alone, accompanied only by her friend Dorothy. During the crossing, Lorelei stirs up the high society on board, gives her friend a supplier and meets the zipper inventor Josephus Gage, while old Esmond is still poking around in her past back home. But Gus doesn't care. He goes to Paris to marry her - and finds her there in a dress with a zipper!
The longing, however, is greater than the pride. At the finale in New York, Lorelei Esmond Senior presented half of the shares in the zip company, so that they can finally get married.
