Blue Moon is a card game by Reiner Knizia for two players that was published by Franckh-Kosmos- Verlag in 2004 . When the basic game was presented at the Nuremberg Toy Fair , Blue Moon received the Toy Innovation Award 2004 in the "Experience" category. Since then, nine expansions have appeared.
In 2014 the game appeared in a new edition under the title Die Legenden von Blue Moon in Heidelberger Spieleverlag .
This game also exudes a special charm because each set of cards of the nine peoples with whom you can go to war was illustrated by a different well-known artist. Other peoples cards were introduced as expansions, including promotion cards that were not commercially available. There are a total of 344 different cards.
The old king has died, the god Blue Moon has turned his back on his world, and the sacred golden dragon (Ordrac) has fallen. Chaos reigns in the ruined city of Blue Moon City . The holy crystal of Psi has disintegrated into a multitude of splinters; the two heirs to the throne (Prince Roland and Princess Elinor) accuse each other of being responsible for the disintegration of the crystal and try to usurp the throne of Blue Moons through war.
The aim of the game is to defeat the opponent with the help of one of the nine races or with a deck you have put together yourself from the race cards and to put the psychic crystal back together again. It is fought with the elements fire or earth. Each player attacks his opponent with one character, who has to block this attack and then has to respond with the same strength or more forcefully. Reinforcements and assists can also be played to aid the characters. For the victory the player is rewarded by three ancient dragons with parts of the psi crystal. Whoever can put the crystal back together becomes the new king of Blue Moon.
