Bob Backus

Bob Backus (actually Robert Hudson Backus ; born July 11, 1926 in Boston , † June 30, 1999 in Hanover , Massachusetts ) was an American hammer thrower .

In 1952 he came in 13th place at the Olympic Games in Helsinki .

He won the Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1955 and won bronze in Chicago in 1959 .

In 1954 he was American champion. He set his personal best of 61.41 m on June 6, 1959 in New York City . In weight throwing he won the national title eight times outdoors (1953-1959, 1965) and seven times indoors (1954-1959, 1961).

His marriage to the Finnish javelin thrower Elsa Torikka was divorced.
