Bob Bignall

Robert "Bob" Bignall (born March 14, 1922 in Wollongong ; † August 2013 ) was an Australian football player .

Career

Bignall completed 424 missions in a 24-year career in New South Wales for the Corrimal Rangers, Woonona, North Shore and South Coast United. From 1954 to 1956, the defender played a total of 20 games for the Australian national football team , including eight official international matches. He made his debut on August 28 against New Zealand and wore the captain's armband for the first time on September 24, 1955 in a game against South Africa . Even at the 1956 Olympic football tournament in his own country, Bignall led the Australian team as captain in both games. He was a total of 37 times for selection teams from New South Wales.

In addition to football, Bignall was also active in the sports of rugby league , tennis and cricket . After retiring from active sports, Bignall turned to training greyhounds .
