Bob Frankston (born June 14, 1949 in Brooklyn , New York ) developed together with Dan Bricklin the first software for spreadsheets in 1979 . VisiCalc ran on Apple II computers and contributed significantly to their success.

Life

Frankston graduated from Stuyvesant High School in New York in 1966 and then studied at MIT (Bachelor in Computer Science and Mathematics 1970, Master's and Engineer's Degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering 1974). During his time at Project MAC , he was also involved in the development of Multics .

During his studies, Frankston worked for the computer research department of White-Weld and Company, which later became Interactive Data . In 1979 he founded the software manufacturer Software Arts together with Dan Bricklin and also developed VisiCalc with Bricklin . After Software Arts was taken over by Lotus in 1985 , he developed a. a. Lotus Express . From 1990 to 1992 he worked for Slate Corporation on mobile systems, then for Microsoft on home networks. He has been with the investment company CommonAngels since 1998.

Bob Frankston is a fellow u. a. the ACM , the IEEE, and the Computer History Museum . He is a prizewinner u. a. of the ACM Software System Award .
