Robert "Bob" Morrison (born August 30, 1869 in Greenock , † July 12, 1891 in Belfast ) was an Irish football player .

Career

Morrison was born the third eldest of five sons of James and Annie Morrison in Scotland, but grew up in Belfast. Morrison was a member of Linfield FC and played for the team in the 1890/91 season as a left-back in the Irish League , when the team won the first-time championship superior. He also took part in the final of the Irish Cup in 1890/91, when a 4-2 win against Ulster FC won the cup for the first time in the club's history.

His achievements in the club also brought him appointments to the Irish national team in the spring of 1891 . On his debut in February 1891, he stood alongside five team- mates ( Dick Moore , William Dalton , George Gaffikin , John Peden and Sam Torrans ) on the pitch as a 7-2 win at Ulsterville (Linfield's venue) against Wales the second win in international history succeeded (four goals by Olphert Stanfield ). A month later, Morrison also played in the 6-1 away defeat by England .

Morrison died of typhus in July 1891 . His youngest brother Tommy was also a national player and came to seven international appearances between 1895 and 1902.
