Bob Stanley (* 25. December 1964 in Horsham , Sussex , England as Robert Andrew Shukman ) is a British musician, writer and filmmaker. He is best known as a member of the British indie pop group Saint Etienne .

Musician

In 1990, Bob Stanley formed the Saint Etienne group with childhood friend Pete Wiggs . He writes and produces, often together with his bandmates, when he performs live he usually plays keyboards.

Music journalist and book author

From 1986 Bob Stanley published the fanzines Pop Avalance and Caff , the second together with Pete Wiggs. A year later he started working as a music journalist for various magazines, first for NME and then for Melody Maker . Even after Saint Etienne was founded, he occasionally wrote articles for various magazines, including The Guardian and, with a guest contribution, also for the FAZ .

In 2007, he and Paul Kelly published Match Day , a book with artwork from football programs. In 2013, his second book, Yeah Yeah Yeah: The Story of Modern Pop, was published on the history of pop music from the publication of the first UK charts in 1952 to 2000.

Others

Since 2002, Bob Stanley has also been active as a filmmaker, mostly together with Paul Kelly. In 2005, What Have You Done Today Mervyn Day? , a documentary about the Lower Lea Valley, the site of the 2012 Summer Olympics .

Stanley was also the operator of several smaller record labels: Caff Records (1989-1992), Icerink Records (1992-1994, with Pete Wiggs) and EMIDisc (1996). He has been running Croydon Municipal , a subdivision of Cherry Red Records, since 2012 .

Bob Stanley lives in Highgate , north London.
