Bobby Lewis (jazz musician)
Robert Alan "Bobby" Lewis (* Oshkosh , Wisconsin ) is an American jazz and studio musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , vocals ).
Live and act
Lewis attended Oshkosh West High School until 1953. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison , and then was in doubt whether he should turn to classical or jazz music. After playing as a volunteer in the Seventh Army Band in Germany for two years in the late 1950s , he made his decision. He has lived in Chicago since 1961, where he played with Jack Teagarden and from 1964 worked as a studio musician. Lewis has worked on around 6,500 recordings over the course of his career, including jingles , film soundtracks and music albums ranging from jazz, soul , funk to rock music by The American Breed , Curtis Mayfield , Joe Morello , Jerry Butler , Tyrone Davis , The Manhattans , Donny Hathaway , Tex Beneke , Si Zentner and The Singers Unlimited , he also worked as musical director with Peggy Lee and Tony Bennett . Between 1975 and 1992 he led the jazz formation Ears , which regularly played in the Orphan's Pub and u. a. also performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival , and for several years with his quintet at Andy's Jazz Club. In the mid-1970s he played a. a. with Rufus Reid , Joe Daley and Arthur Hoyle in the trumpet formation The Forefront , with whom two albums were created and which performed at the first International Brass Congress in Montreux . In the 1990s he recorded a number of albums under his own name for the Chicago label Southport .
