Robert "Bobby" Thomson (born November 21, 1939 in Menstrie ) is a former Scottish football player . In his short professional career, he was a full-back in the extended squad of Liverpool FC , which won the English championship in the 1963/64 season.
Athletic career
The Liverpool undertook in December 1962, Thomson-back by the Scottish first division side Partick Thistle . Towards the end of the 1962/63 season, the newcomer completed his first appearance as a substitute for Gerry Byrne in the first team of the "Reds", his debut on April 18, 1963 against Nottingham Forest with a 2-0 home defeat at Anfield ended. In the team-internal fight for a regular place he had against the more experienced Byrne Ronnie Moran and Phil Ferns but mostly the worse cards and during the championship season 1963/64 he came only three times. His two league appearances against Chelsea (2: 1) and West Ham United (0: 1) in mid-January 1964 were not enough to receive an official title medal.
In August 1965 he moved on to Luton Town . For the "Hatters" he played 74 games in the fourth division before he emigrated to Australia .
