Menstrie ( Gaelic : Meanstraibh ) is a village in the Scottish Council Area Clackmannanshire . It is located on the western border of the administrative district about eight kilometers northeast of Stirling and five kilometers northwest of Alloa at the foot of the Ochil Hills and is one of the Hillfoots Villages . Menstrie is connected to the road network by the A91 . In 2011 Menstrie had 2804 inhabitants. The Menstrie Burn stream , which comes from the Ochils, crosses the village and flows into the Devonian about a kilometer further .

Between 1746 and 1929 Menstrie operated the nationally important whiskey distillery Glenochil . Today there are large bonded warehouses of the international Diageo group for the storage of whiskey, which are of great economic importance for Menstrie. There is also a yeast factory in Menstrie.

Menstrie is home to Menstrie Castle , which dates back to the late 16th century . This is where William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling and Ralph Abercromby were born.
