Bockenheimer Landstrasse 76

The under monument protection standing Villa Bockenheimer Landstrasse 76 in Frankfurt's West End is now the International Studies Center of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University , Frankfurt am Main , as a seat.

In the course of the second half of the 19th century, the Bockenheimer Landstrasse developed from a rural connecting road between Frankfurt and the neighboring town of Bockenheim into a completely built-up residential area. One of the last vacant lots was sold by the City of Frankfurt to the Jewish merchant Sigmund Una on August 15, 1896.

This purchase of the 998 m² property was brokered by the Frankfurt architect August Albert , who may also have been the architect of the villa that Una had built the following year. The result was a neo-baroque house with a partially carved stone facade and ornamental gables on the risalit side .

After Sigfried Una's death, his widow Rosette, née Mayer, inherited the property. In 1926 it was bought by the Frankfurt businessman Adolf Blech, who, however, sold it on to the Frankfurt citizens' association in 1927. This was founded in the context of the revolution of 1848/1849 in the Free City of Frankfurt . However, its tradition was more important than its financial strength. As a result of the global economic crisis , the association lost its assets and the house was foreclosed on May 12, 1933 . However, from the perspective of the operating bank, this did not lead to any satisfactory income. Frankfurter Sparkasse, for example, became the owner itself from 1822 in 1936.

The city of Frankfurt acquired the building in 1939 and sold part of it to the Frankfurt industrialist Theodor van Kaich in 1942. After the Second World War it was initially used for residential purposes.

On May 7, 1962, the state of Hesse acquired the villa in order to accommodate the newly founded preparatory college for foreign applicants .
