Bodo (Nigeria)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bodo is a place in the Niger Delta in southeastern Nigeria . It is located about 20 kilometers southeast of Port Harcourt in the state of Rivers in the settlement area of the Ogoni and has 69,000 inhabitants. According to calculations in 2012, the town itself has 6137 inhabitants.

Mangrove forests in the area are devastated by the oil pollution in the Niger Delta , which has sometimes lasted for decades , which is much larger than the individual disasters of the Exxon Valdez and even the Deepwater Horizon . Fishing and farming , which used to be the basis of life, are no longer possible.
