Dinu was able to celebrate considerable success as an amateur, especially among the juniors. Among other things, he won the gold medal at the 3rd Cadet World Championships in the Romanian capital Bucharest in 2003 . There he beat Zurab Uchenashvili, Adam Lukacs and Maxim Balatsir.
