Bogislaw von Schwerin

Bogislaw von Schwerin (also Bogislav or Bogislaus ; born July 22, 1622 in Ueckermünde , † January 16, 1678 in Stettin ) was a chamberlain from the Brandenburg Electorate of Brandenburg , Privy Council of War , Landvoigt and Commander of the Comtor of Schivelbein and an officer, most recently major general . He was governor of the Pomeranian militias and of Kolberg. He was a large landowner and owned several estates in Pomerania.

Life

Bogislaw von Schwerin came from the noble family von Schwerin and was born as the son of the Pomeranian district administrator and governor of Ueckermünde Otto von Schwerin. His mother was Dorothee von Weissenbach. Together with his brother Otto von Schwerin , their father sent him to Königsberg in Prussia for training in 1637 . The brother was later President of Brandenburg.

He was appointed the owner (1655–1668) of Infantry Regiment No. 2 and had been in command of Kolberg since 1654 .

In 1653 the Great Elector Friedrich Wilhelm von Brandenburg and the director Bogislaw von Schwerin founded a knight academy in Kolberg. In 1654 Bogislaw became lieutenant colonel, in 1657 regiment commander (800 servants), in 1664 appointed colonel and in 1669 major general.

In the Pomeranian campaign of 1675/76 he commanded the right eastern flank of the Brandenburg armed forces from Western Pomerania, took the island of Wollin and occupied the island of Usedom and moved against Wolgast from the island.

He died in the Swedish-Brandenburg War in 1678 after the siege and storming of Stettin.

His son was the lawyer Johannes "Johann" Bogislaus von Schwerin.
