Bohunicia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bohunicien is a so-called "transition industry" between Middle Palaeolithic and Upper Paleolithic in Eastern Central Europe . It is named after the Bohunice site, a district of Brno in the Czech Republic. It is dated to around 43,000 to 35,000 years ago and is thus around the same time as the Western European Châtelperronia and Aurignacia .

The finds included leaf tips , points, scrapers and scrapers, toothed pieces and blades. Often, but not exclusively, the Levallois technique was used, which was mainly used by the Neanderthals . The connection between the Levallois technique and Upper Paleolithic blade mining shows features of both traditions.

Another important find is Stránská skála on the outskirts of Brno.
