Alexandria is a census-designated place in Calhoun County Alabamas in the United States . In 2000 the settlement had 3692 inhabitants. It is within the Anniston - Oxford Metropolitan Statistical Area .

Alexandria is located at the intersection of US Highway 431 with Alabama State Route 144 and, according to the United States Census Bureau, has an area of 28.7 km², which consists entirely of land.

Demographics
At the time of the United States Census 2000, 3,692 people lived in the city. The population density was 128.4 people per km ². There were 1467 housing units at an average of 51 per km². The population of Alexandria was 88.43% White , 9.75% Black or African American , 0.27% Native American , 0.60% Asian , 0.11% Pacific Islander , 0.24% said other races belong to and 0.60% mentioned two or more races. 0.65% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
The residents of Alexandria were distributed to 1,397 households out of which 39.5% had children under 18 years of age. 64.5% of households are married, 9.8% had a female head of household without a husband and 22.5% did not form families. 19.8% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 7.2% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.04.
The population was divided into 27.4% minors, 8.2% 18–24 year olds, 31.7% 25–44 year olds, 23.0% 45–64 year olds and 9.7% aged 65 years or more. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 women there were 93.7 men. For every 100 women over 18, there were 92.9 men.
