Bojan Iwanow Danowski ( Bulgarian Боян Иванов Дановски ; born July 19, 1899 in Rustschuk , † March 9, 1976 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian director , playwright and theater scholar .

Life

Danowski studied engineering and music in Italy from 1919 to 1921 . He then went to Germany and worked there as a director. In 1932/33 Danowski founded the proletarian theater in Bulgaria . From 1946 to 1951 he was chief director at the Bulgarian National Theater in Sofia. In 1953 and 1954 he was rector of the National Academy for Theater and Film Arts .

His productions dealt with classical and contemporary plays by Bulgarian, Russian , Soviet and Western European authors . He also wrote plays himself and published studies on theater studies. He is seen as a representative of socialist realism .

Danowski was honored as a hero of socialist work and the Dimitrov Prize.
