Bola Johnson

Bola Johnson (born July 6, 1947 in Obon, † April 6, 2014 in Ikorodu , Lagos ) was a Nigerian highlife musician ( trumpet , vocals ), songwriter , band leader , entertainer and columnist.

Johnson started his career playing maracas in Eric Akaezes house band at the Easy Life Hotel in Mokola, Ibadan , before founding his own band, Easy Life Top Beats , with which he recorded a number of singles (including Nwosu's special for Philips -West African Records) and went on tour. He became known in Lagos in the 1960s for his songs Asawo Ajegunle - Ajegunle Prostitute, Baby One Pound Ten and Pata Gbigbona - Hot Pant . From 1970 to 1990 he was a columnist for Wakabout Stories , which appeared in the Lagos Weekend Newspaper; most recently he worked as a highlife DJ at the radio station Bond FM Radio Lagos . In 2010 Johnson's music appeared on the compilation Man No Die .
