Bold beautiful biathlon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bold Beautiful Biathlon is the title of a calendar published in 2008 for the year 2009. It was received in the media nationwide because it presented nudes of five top Canadian biathletes .

The Bold Beautiful Biathlon Calendar was produced in order to financially support the five top Canadian biathletes Zina Kocher , Sandra Keith , Megan Imrie , Megan Tandy and Rosanna Crawford , the younger sister of the Olympic champion Chandra Crawford , and to support them with regard to the Olympics Support the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada . 5,000 calendars were produced, sold at a price of 20 Canadian dollars each and expected to bring in 80,000 dollars in profit. With the help of sponsors, 13,000 Canadian dollars were invested. The proceeds will be used to support the athletes with training and travel expenses, which amount to around 30,000 dollars per athlete for a World Cup participation. The black and white pictures were taken by the photographers Rachel Boekel and Adrian Marcoux. The five athletes are responsible for the layout and design.

The calendar is based on another calendar of a similar type that cross-country skiers Beckie Scott and Sara Renner produced in 2001 in preparation for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . In 2008, the third edition of a nude calendar was published by top curlers from around the world, including Canadians Christine Keshen and Chrissy Cadorin . Canada 's national women's rugby team also released a 24-month calendar. Biathlon is more of a marginal sport in Canada, better known as ski jumping, but far less popular than speed skating or even ice hockey . Therefore the Canadian team does not have a team sponsor and has to resort to such unusual means to raise the necessary money. The Canadian biathlon, which was mediocre at the time the calendar was drawn up, could only be improved if the athletes took part more in international competitions, which was associated with high costs. A $ 120 million program to promote Canadian winter sports towards the Vancouver Games brought little funding to the biathletes. For the 2008-09 season, the biathletes only got $ 287.325 because they are not counted among the medal contenders.

The biathlete calendar contains 14 monthly pages. To promote the calendar, the five athletes drove around downtown Calgary on October 22, 2008, only lightly clad in shorts and tank tops, in a promotional campaign accompanied by the press on roller skis and with their weapons on their backs, handing out advertising leaflets for the calendar. On their bare legs they had written “power” (energy), “aim” (goal), “bold” (courageous) and “focus” (goal). After the campaign, Kocher spoke of a successful team building measure. The pictures show the athletes both in a relaxed and in a strained pose and as biathletes in a shooting position.

Tandy said of the calendar “We wanted to communicate beautiful bodies, but the beauty of being active, being healthy and being self-confident” ( We wanted to show beautiful bodies, but beauty should also show activity, health and self-confidence ). Crawford also addressed goals beyond making money: “It's more than just raising money. We're doing this to promote a healthy lifestyle throughout Canada and showing beautiful athletic bodies while doing it. "( It's about more than just making money. We're doing this to promote a healthy lifestyle in Canada and to show how beautiful athletic body during exercise ). On the website they formulate their intentions in matters of education as follows: "Our goal is to empower and inspire women and girls by expressing the beauty of a healthy, athletic body." ( Our goal is to women and girls by showing the beauty of to strengthen and inspire healthy and athletic bodies ). Sara Renner was impressed by the calendar: "As the mother of a daughter, I would be proud to see pictures of these role models on my child's wall as opposed to a synthetically-enhanced Hollywood star" ( As a mother of a daughter I would be proud, if I saw pictures of these girls on my child's wall as opposed to the synthetic Hollywood stars ). A large number of the calendars are sold to Germany after a short report on the calendar was broadcast on December 14, 2008 on ARD.

In 2009, for their part, the French biathletes brought out a calendar for the 2010 Olympic year, which shows them in costumes as cowboys , after posing as actresses for a calendar in 2006.
