Friederike Adelung (born November 2, 1783 in Stettin , † after 1817) was a German writer and educator .

Life

Friederike Adelung was born in Stettin as the youngest daughter of the Adelung judiciary. She received a very good education for girls and was a good letter writer even as a child. At a young age she became friends with Luise von Rohr , later married. von Haugwitz, who became known as a writer under the pseudonym Arminia . Luise von Haugwitz wrote the novel "Nanny and Adelinde, or the power of sympathy" on the basis of the mutual correspondence in 1804, which was positively received by the critics. Adelinde portrayed Friederike Adelung.

In 1805 Friederike Adelung left Stettin and went to Dresden to take care of her uncle Johann Christoph Adelung . However, the respected court librarian died a year later. Friederike Adelung stayed with her married sister in Dresden and finished her novel “Emma, or Love and Deception” in 1810, which she published under the pseudonym Klara . The novel was received ambiguously by the critics, the Jenaische Allgemeine Literatur-Zeitung found that Klara would have taken better care of herself and her rural friends in any other occupation .

Friederike Adelung later returned to Stettin, where her mother and father died in quick succession. After another short stay in Dresden, she went to Posen in 1817 , where she worked as an educator in a German family. Another novel remained unfinished.
