Boleslav III. , the red , Czech : Boleslav III. Ryšavý (* before 999; † 1037 in Poland ) was 999-1002 Duke of Bohemia from the dynasty of Premyslid .

Life

Boleslav III. was the eldest son of Boleslav II. Soon after taking over the rule, he came into conflict with his brothers Jaromír and Oldřich , who fled from him to Regensburg. Since his entourage rose against him in mid-1002, he sought help, first from the Margrave of the Nordgau Heinrich , later from the first Polish king, Bolesław I. Chrobry , with whose help he ousted Jaromír and briefly came back to power in 1003.

After a new uprising of his followers (after the murder of his son-in-law) he was captured by the Polish King Bolesław I. Chrobry (later Boleslav IV. In Bohemia ), brought to Krakow and blinded there . He died in captivity in 1037.
