The Bommelhauck is 685.7 m above sea level. NN high mountain in the Wartburg district . It is located in the Thuringian Forest above Steinbach .
The Bommelhauck has several secondary peaks : the Frauenberg (595 m), the Zugfinkskuppe (575.4 m), the Floßberg (618.2 m), the Schnepfenberg (677.4 m) and the White Stone (625.4 m). Mining has been practiced in this area since the Middle Ages.
On White stone lay barite even on the surface. After the stone was to be preserved as a natural monument, this rock formation was nevertheless completely dismantled by the middle of the 20th century. Mining took place below the Zugfinkskuppe until 1990 (see also: Steinbacher Bergwerksbahn ). Then all pits in the western Thuringian Forest were kept.
The Steinbacher ski lift was also located on one of the foothills of the Bommelhauck and the Krätzersrasen holiday property was close to the Rennsteig . Both are no longer in operation. Halfway between Steinbach and the Krätzersrasen there is the DRK mountain rescue hut in Steinbach.
