The bondelle ( Coregonus candidus ) is a freshwater fish from the subfamily Coregoninae .
features
Like the other members of the Coregoninae subfamily, the Bondelle has a herring-like shape with numerous small, silvery round scales. It also has an adipose fin. It becomes up to 320 mm long.
Spread and endangerment
The Bond Elle is in Neuchâtel and Biel in Switzerland endemic . This small distribution area also results in the considerable danger that other members of the Coregoninae pose for them through restocking measures, because the original Bondelle was weakened by hybrid formation and even more by competition. It was also affected by the water reutrophication that was prevalent in the 1970s. Nowadays conditions are improving and the population in both lakes is considered rich. Therefore the Bondelle is classified as "endangered" ( vulnerable ) on the IUCN Red List .
Way of life
The bondelle prefers to feed on zooplankton. The reproduction takes place in 90 to 130 m depth; there are sandy or muddy bottoms. Male animals become sexually mature in the 2nd to 3rd year of life, females only in the 4th year of life.
