Martin Aßmann (born June 19, 1931 in Schönlanke , Pomerania ; † September 10, 2018 in Braunschweig ) was a German civil engineer and entrepreneur. He was the founder of the consulting and planning office Assmann Beraten + Planen GmbH.

Life

In the battle for East Pomerania , his mother fled to Minden with him and his three siblings from East Pomerania .

Aßmann attended the State Building School in Frankfurt am Main from 1951 to 1954 and graduated as a civil engineer. Afterwards he gained his first professional experience as an employee in the engineering office Collorio in Stadtoldendorf until 1959. At the same time he studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Braunschweig .

As a graduate engineer , Aßmann founded the "Engineering Office for Structural Statics Aßmann" in 1959, which specialized in the statics of reinforced concrete and steel construction as well as foundation calculations. After opening several locations, the company was renamed "Assmann Beraten + Planen GmbH" in 1989. In 1963 he acquired an LGP-30 from Eurocomp GmbH - a computer that weighed 384 kg, had 113 tubes and a magnetic drum with 4096 32-bit words as main memory. This enabled the company to carry out the first static calculations with an electronic computer system. In 1996 Aßmann left the company as managing director and only worked as a consultant for Assmann Beraten + Planen.
From 1991 to 2003 he was President of the Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI). He was then made an honorary member of the association.
In 1999, Assmann took over the Delmenhorst Technology Center (today: Delmenhorst Technology and Economic Center TWZ ) as a private provider . Aßmann has around 45 publications in specialist books, the specialist press and the press (as of 2006).

His son Bernd, then 21, was murdered in Australia in 1981.
