Citizen Medal of the City of Braunschweig

The Citizen Medal of the City of Braunschweig for special services to the promotion of the common good has been awarded since 1988 to individuals and associations of people who have rendered outstanding services to the interests of the City of Braunschweig . Proposals can annually by the Mayor and Council of the fractions of the Council of the City of Braunschweig are submitted. The awarding of the citizen medal takes place in the Dornse of the old town hall.

Since its foundation, the citizen's medal was awarded to 41 individuals in the first 13 years up to the turn of the century, and thereafter to 19 individuals or associations of individuals. In four cases, the winners so far include people connected as married couples and in four cases, associations of persons.

The citizen's medal has been awarded to the following people and associations:

  • Richard Moderhack (1907-2010)

  • Wolf Horenburg (* 1934) - sports sponsorship
  • Käte Ralfs (1898–1995) - Promotion of the fine arts

  • Gabriele Müller (born Westphal; * 1940) - Services to the days of new chamber music
  • Hans-Joachim Kreth (* 1917) - work in animal and environmental protection

  • Dietrich Mack (1913–2001) - Contribution to the scientific genealogy and the inscriptions of the city of Braunschweig
  • Ursula Wiegmann (* 1938; †) - working for rheumatism sufferers
  • Johannes Wiese (* 1921; †) - Services for the promotion of libraries, the association tv minerva and the support association OK TV Braunschweig

  • Married couple Sabine Kluth and Jens Schütte - u. a. for participation in the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) and expansion of the bicycle traffic (network) in Braunschweig
