Thomas Dexel
Thomas Dexel (born June 28, 1916 in Jena ; † July 6, 2010 in Braunschweig ) was a German teacher at the Braunschweiger Werkkunstschule and from 1955 until his retirement in 1996 headed the form collection of the city of Braunschweig .
Life
Thomas Dexel was the son of the artist Walter Dexel , who founded the Braunschweiger Formsammlung in 1942. In 1953, the director of the Braunschweiger Werkkunstschule, Karl Wollermann , brought Thomas Dexel to work as a librarian and teacher for art history at what would later become the University of Fine Arts.
In 1955, after completing his doctorate at the University of Göttingen , Dexel became the head of the form collection of the city of Braunschweig, which was headed by his father until then. Dexel maintained and expanded these for a period of 41 years. He published several standard works and thus gave the collection supra-regional importance.
In 1994 the city of Braunschweig honored him for his decades of work with the city's citizen medal . In 1996 he retired. In 2007 Adzes gave some valuable pieces from his private collection as a donation to the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum .
