Ludwig Wamser

Ludwig Wamser (born January 8, 1945 in Tauberbischofsheim ) is a German prehistoric archaeologist and headed the State Archaeological Collection in Munich from 1995 to January 2010 .

biography

After graduating from high school in 1965 at the Matthias-Grünewald-Gymnasium in Tauberbischofsheim, Wamser studied Prehistory and Protohistory , Anthropology and Provincial Roman Archeology at the University of Freiburg and the University of Tübingen . In 1972 he was in Freiburg with the dissertation Mauenheim and Bargen . Two grave mound fields of Hallstatt and Early La Tène from northern Hegau " doctorate.

From 1972 he worked as a research assistant at the Chair for Prehistory and Protohistory at the University of Bochum . From 1974 to 1977 he was head of the archaeological branch in Nuremberg of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . He then headed the Würzburg archaeological branch of the same state office until 1995 . At the same time he had a teaching position at the University of Würzburg from 1978 to 1995 . In 1986 Wamser was appointed chief conservator and in 1994 honorary professor at the University of Würzburg.

In 1995 he succeeded Hermann Dannheimer as head of the Prehistoric State Collection in Munich, which was renamed the Archaeological State Collection in May 2000 at his request . In 1996 Ludwig Wamser was awarded an honorary professorship at the University of Munich . He retired at the end of January 2010.

Ludwig Wamser is a member of the German Archaeological Institute .

The archaeologist and his wife, the historian Ute Wamser, have lived there since the state director August Everding moved out of Grünwald Castle in 1993 .
