Bongart (also " de Pomerio " or Bongard ) is the name of an ancient Jülischen noble family of the Lower Rhine Imperial Knighthood .

history

The family is mentioned for the first time in 1220 with the Vogt of Jülich Johann von dem Bongart together with his wife Christine in the Laurenz shrine. In 1303, the knight Arnold, known as von dem Bongart, gave his Haus zur Heyden to Count Gerart von Jülich as an open house.

In 1336 the family had the rank of Chamberlain of Jülich, which was confirmed in 1850.

On December 16, 1629 Werner von dem Bongart and his son Wilhelm were elevated to the status of baron. The Prussian recognition took place on March 31, 1827 for Ferdinand von dem Bongart on Paffendorf.

On May 23, 1878, Pius Graf von Walderdorff accepted the name and coat of arms of the Bongart family in accordance with the will of his uncle Ludwig von dem Bongart . Through his daughter-in-law, a branch of the family settled at Fronsburg Castle in Lower Austria.
