The Bonner Platz , 1906 named after the city of Bonn , is a place in the Munich district of Schwabing , in the district of Schwabing . This is where the Bonner Platz underground station on the U3 line is located .

Open into the square (clockwise): Karl-Theodor-Strasse from the west, Bonner Strasse from the north, Rheinstrasse from the northeast corner of the square to the east, Karl-Theodor-Strasse to the east from the southeast corner of the square and Viktoriastrasse to the south . The square is traversed diagonally by the western Karl-Theodor-Strasse and the Rheinstrasse, which merge here and which belong to the busy city tangential Dietlindenstrasse - Potsdamer Strasse - Rheinstrasse - Karl-Theodor-Strasse - Ackermannstrasse. In contrast, the eastern Karl-Theodor-Strasse is of secondary importance; it crosses the aforementioned thoroughfare and becomes Bonner Strasse. In addition, there are narrow parking lot access roads on the north, east and south sides.

As a result of the traffic routing described, the majority of the space is taken up by traffic areas. There are also parking spaces and two traffic islands (meadow with some trees).

history

Originally the square was laid out as a northern bulge of the continuous Karl-Theodor-Straße. West-east traffic was limited to the area between Schleissheimer Strasse and Ungererstrasse ; to the west was the Oberwiesenfeld parade ground , to the east the English Garden , which was still undivided . The Rheinstrasse only became a thoroughfare after the Second World War with the construction of the Middle Ring through the English Garden.
