The hamlet of Borbet is a listed group of secular houses that today belongs to Lüdenscheid in the Märkisches Kreis ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

Borbet was first mentioned in a document in 1431. Two farmsteads can be traced back to the 17th century at the latest. Up to Borbet was in 1579 as a patrimony of the parish called Lüdenscheid and the genetic makeup of eight to Borbet was in 1652 as a splinter group of the free goods from Brüninghausen mentioned. The main economic basis for the existence of the place was the iron trade in the valley, which can be proven since the late 17th century. The group of simple quarry stone buildings , most of which date from the second half of the 18th century, is an example of the rural architecture of the Sauerland in Brandenburg .

The residential and farm building with boarded gables consists of two components from different construction periods. In between lies the transverse corridor accessible on the eaves . The southern part with the entrance on the gable side has a partial basement and probably dates from the second half of the 18th century. The two rear rooms were originally used as a stable. A massive hearth wall with a smokehouse is on the upper floor. The three-aisled commercial hall, the gate of which is now blocked, is probably from the 19th century. A staircase to a three-sided gallery leads to the chambers. On the forecourt, opposite a garden with a quarry stone border, there is a house linden tree. The granary with an external staircase was probably built in the 17th century. From the second half of the 18th century there is still a well with a pump, a half-timbered shed and quarry stone. The so-called old sheepfold has a partial cellar. It corresponds to the type of a transit barn. The so-called New Sheepfold , a partly basement building made of quarry stone, was built in the second half of the 19th century.

The south gable of the long hall house from the second half of the 18th century is boarded up, the hall was originally house deep. A round arched gate and three staggered smoke holes are in the south wall. A two-storey facade is formed on the eaves in front of the living rooms. A more recent fireplace stands on the herringbone paving in the tall, narrow hallway .
