history

Like a chain, the Frisians built Wurten as branches along the coast. They were each a half to two kilometers apart. When the storm tides rolled in higher and higher, the Wurten was connected by dikes . However, the Bordumers failed to stabilize and strengthen the dikes. Today's area of the Jade Bay has repeatedly been easy prey to storm surges because it was predominantly bogthat was broken up and washed away by the water. On the night of January 16-17, 1511, a heavy storm caused the water to rise to a very high tide. This storm surge, which went down in the history of the North Sea coast as the Antoni flood, destroyed the dykes by repeatedly driving up the remaining ice. Here the Johanniterkommende Hoven passed . Bordum and numerous other villages in the area had to be abandoned as a result.

Today only the Bordumer Straße in Dangast , the Bordumplatz in Wilhelmshaven , the Bordum marine facility , the Bordumer Busch nature reserve and the Bordumer Sand remind of the name of the former Frisian village . The nave was probably located there, because excavations found remains of rubble and human bones at this point.
