Johanniter coming Hoven

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hoven was the location of a commander of the Order of St. John in the parish of Bordum , which was closed after the Antoni flood in 1511 and went down in the Jade Bay . Today the Banter Sea Dike is in Wilhelmshaven in front of Bordum.

history

Parts of the lands of the Coming in the Jade Bay are known as Croede monneken .

The Johanniter-Doppelkommende in Hoven (also thon Hoven, Havermonniken, Hovermonniken ) was in the lost parish of Bordum. The first documentary mention is in 1319 in the Groninger comparison between the Frisian Johanniter houses and the Ballei Westfalen. The foundation of the religious house was probably already in the 13th century. Hoven's property was large, divided between Arngast and Dangast . In Arngast it may have been a free float, but a stone house has survived for Dangast. It was the headquarters of Rüstringer chief's family of Wiemekinge . Both areas were possibly given to the order by Sibet Lubben , the grandson and heir of Edo Wiemkens . This could be related to the transfer of rule to the Counts of Oldenburg , who in 1428 took over the court “to Arnegast an wente uppe dat bracke to Gudensen ”. A few more lands of the Kommende were located south of the Banter Church , they were called "moniken Groden" and can be seen on the Oldenburg county map of Laurentius Michaelis from 1584.

At the end of the 15th century the Kommende paid three guilders a year to the Commander in Steinfurt . In 1496, the coming was paid a visit by the Grand Master of the Order of St. John. In the visitation report, Hoven appears as a church member of the diocese of Bremen . It was also stated that in secular matters it was subordinate to the Counts of East Friesland . This statement was probably an intentional misleading to reduce the influence of the Counts of Oldenburg. As a result of the Antoni flood in 1511, the Kommende Hoven was given up. The last commander took the church treasure with him to the Johanniter house in Dangast.
