Albrecht Eckhardt

Albrecht Eckhardt (born November 3, 1937 in Bonn ) is a German archivist and historian . From 1977 to 2002 he was director of the Lower Saxony State Archives in Oldenburg .

Life

Albrecht Eckhardt is the son of the legal historian Karl August Eckhardt and the brother of the historian Wilhelm Alfred Eckhardt . He grew up in Witzenhausen in northern Hesse . He studied in Göttingen with Georg Schnath . Eckhardt wrote his dissertation on the princely Lüneburg chancellor of the 16th century, Balthasar Klammer. Eckhardt worked as a scientific archivist in the Hessian State Archives. In 1977 he moved from the Hessian State Archives in Darmstadt to Oldenburg. A focus of his work was the research of the history of various cities in the Oldenburg area but also the history of the Oldenburg Parliamentand its members. During his retirement he contributed significantly to the three-volume Oldenburg Local Lexicon. From 1996 to 2012 he headed the Working Group on the State and Regional History of the Oldenburg Landscape , succeeded by Dietmar von Reeken and Gerd Steinwascher .
