The Borgentrick Tower (also: Cord Borgentrick Tower ) is a listed defense tower in the old town of Hanover . It was part of the city's fortifications and is now integrated as a monument in the former main building of the Hanover Adult Education Center on Theodor-Lessing-Platz.

history

According to the city board, the tower was built as part of the city wall around 1310. According to the monument conservator Arnold Nöldeke , "the semicircular tower at the Spreenswinkel " was 9.40 m high from its 2.40 m deep underground to the (former) roof top. The basement was built from ashlars, the brick addition was added in the 15th century.

In 1490, the citizen Cord Borgentrick is said to have informed the guards in the tower of an impending attack on the city by the troops of Duke Heinrich the Elder of Braunschweig and Lüneburg . The tower later served as a dwelling for the shepherd of the cows on the Aegidien pasture.

One of the oldest photographs of the Borgentric Tower (1886) was made famous by the photographer Georg Alpers.
