Ludwig Hoerner

Ludwig Hoerner (born September 8, 1919 in Liegnitz ; † November 27, 2015 ) was a German self-taught researcher and author on the history of Hanoverian trade in the 19th century and the history of photography in various cities. He was considered to be one of the best experts on the early German history of photography and trade in the 19th century.

Life

In 1957 Ludwig Hoerner founded a photo shop under his name in Hanover . From 1957 to 1959 he was general secretary of the Club Daguerre , an association for the care of the historical aspects of photography . Since the mid-1970s, he has researched and published on the history and development of photography as well as on Hanover’s city and commercial history.

His book The photographic trade in Germany 1839–1914 , which was published in 1989 by GFW-Verlag in Düsseldorf, has been cited many times and is considered to be an “outstanding illustration of the emergence and development of the early photo market”.
