Boris Rosenberg

Boris Rosenberg ( Ukrainian Бори́с Розенберг ; born July 9, 1962 in Odessa ) is a former table tennis player who had his peak in the 1980s. He is a six-time Soviet champion (singles, doubles and mixed) and also played for the USSR national team .

In the 1980s, Boris Rosenberg was the most successful Soviet table tennis player in doubles - he won gold four times in the doubles competitions of the USSR championships. In 1984 Boris had won the Soviet championship in doubles (with Valery Shevchenko) and in 1985 he had defended the title, this time with Andrei Masunov . In 1987 Rosenberg won his only Soviet championship title in singles. A year later (1988) he was again Soviet champion in doubles (with Andrei Masunow). In 1989 he won his fourth USSR championship title in doubles, this time together with Igor Podnosow, and in 1990 Rosenberg won his only Soviet championship title in mixed with Olga Laposchina (as well as Rosenberg from Odessa).

In 1991 Boris Rosenberg moved to Israel, where he played for the Hapoel Rishon club and was eligible to play for Israel.

He has lived in Germany since 1991. Here he had already participated in the German Open in 1988 and reached third place. In 1991 he joined the TTC Esslingen club , which was playing in the 2nd Bundesliga at the time. In 1992 he suffered serious injuries in a car accident from which he recovered well. In the same year he moved to TTF Ochsenhausen , in 1994 to the Würzburger Kickers . In 1995 he returned to the TTF Ochsenhausen. Further club stations followed, u. a. for TTG Netphen (1997–1999), TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt (from 1999) and TTS Esslingen. In the 2015/16 season he played with his younger son Erik for the TTC Lantenbach, and on May 10, 2016, he was 65th in the German table tennis rankings.

National team

At the European Championships in 1984 Boris Rosenberg only represented the USSR in the individual competition. At the 1986 European Championships in Prague , Rosenberg played for the USSR in the team competition. At the European Championships in 1988 he had won the bronze medal with the Soviet team, and in the mixed competition he had reached the quarterfinals together with Valentina Popová . Boris Rosenberg played doubles with Andrei Masunow at the 1988 Olympic Games and was eliminated in the first round.

Trainer

Boris Rosenberg has an A license table tennis trainer. Under his leadership the youth team of the TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt became German champions in 2007. In 2013 he trained the youngsters at TTF Pannenklöpper Olper. He trains the TB Hückeswagen in 2017.

Private

Boris Rosenberg has two sons - Roman and Erik. Both are also table tennis players. The older one - Roman Rosenberg, took 45th place in the German table tennis rankings on August 11, 2015 and played for SV Salamander Kornwestheim in the 2015/16 season .
