Borys Bukreev

Borys Jakowytsch Bukrejew ( Ukrainian Борис Якович Букреєв , scientific. Transliteration Borys Jakovyč Bukrejev ; August born 24 jul. / 5. September  1859 greg. In lgov , Kursk , Russian Empire ; † 2. October 1962 in Kiev ) was a Ukrainian mathematician .

Life

From 1889 he was professor of mathematics at the University of Kiev. His research was particularly influenced by Mikhail Waschtschenko-Sacharschenko .

Bukreev's work was devoted to function theory and differential equations . He was mainly concerned with the theory and the possible applications of so-called fuchsian functions with rank zero. He also dealt with geometry (especially projective and non-Euclidean ), differential invariants and parameters in area theory and the history of mathematics .

His most influential publications include A Course on Applications of Differential and Integral Calculus to Geometry (1930), An Introduction to the Calculus of Variations (1934), and Non-Euclidean Planimetry in Analytic Terms (1947).
