The Royal Boskalis Westminster abbreviated, Boskalis , is a Dutch public company whose focus is the Seebaggergeschäft. It used to appear under its Dutch name “ Koninklijke Boskalis Westminster NV ”.
Overview
The traditional business fields of the company, founded in 1910, include the dredging of sand and mud for the purpose of keeping ports and fairways clear , land reclamation and coastal protection . To this end, the company maintains a large fleet of around 300 dredgers of all sizes. Many of these are in-house developments.
More recently, Boskalis has also been building ports, including technical infrastructure, through its subsidiary “Archirodon” (turnover 141 million euros), in which it holds 40%, and operates port infrastructure, above all liquid gas terminals, through its subsidiary “Lamnalco” (turnover 43 million euros) which it holds 50%.
Further markets are underwater rock work and earthworks in deep water for offshore facilities for oil production or natural gas production such as drilling platforms, production platforms, pipelines etc. Smit Internationale has been a subsidiary of the company since 2010.
In Germany, Boskalis operates through its subsidiary Heinrich Hirdes GmbH hydraulic engineering , dredging , culvert construction , civil engineering , pile driving , port construction , remediation and environmental technology and ordnance disposal .
In 2016, Boskalis took over STRABAG Wasserbau (formerly Josef Möbius Bau).
From 1993 to 2006 Boskalis was led by Rob van Gelder , since 2006 by Peter Berdowski .

In 2015, the company employed 8,200 people and generated sales of 3.24 billion euros.
Ownership structure
The main shareholders are "HAL Holding NV" 31%, "Sprucegrove Investment Management Limited" 5.6% and "Delta Lloyd NV" 5%. The remainder is free float and is mainly in the USA , Great Britain and 10 other European countries.
Land reclamation, example of the Palm Islands
In Dubai z. B. Boskalis participates with three of his 300 dredgers, namely the Colbart , the Taurus and the Ursa in the filling and securing of Palm Island I , an artificial island in the shape of a palm tree with a coastline of 120 km, for which approx. 200 million cubic meters of sand and Stones need to be moved. Mostly, however, it is about container ports , natural gas terminals , land reclamation for commercial buildings on the coasts of megacities, etc.

Its main competitors include the Belgian Dredging International and the Dutch companies Van Oord and Volker Stevin Marine Contracting (VSMC) and the Belgian-Luxembourgish Jan de Nul Group .
