Bosscha observatory

The Bosscha Observatory ( observatory code 299) is the oldest observatory in Indonesia . The observatory was founded in 1923 and belongs to the Institute Teknologi Bandung . It is located at 1,310 m altitude in the city of Lembang in the west of the island of Java .

Telescopes

The observatory has five larger telescopes .

Zeiss double refractor

With this telescope, binary stars are predominantly examined or observed , in particular by photometry of overlapping binary stars, lunar craters , the planets Mars , Saturn and Jupiter as well as comets . The telescope has two objective lenses with a diameter of 60 cm and a focal length of 10.7 meters.

Schmidt telescope

With the Schmidt telescope (nickname: Bima Sakti ) galaxies , star spectra, asteroids and supernovae are examined. The main mirror has a diameter of 71 cm, the Schmidt plate 50 cm, the focal length is 2.5 m.

Bamberg refractor

This refractor with a diameter of 37 cm and a focal length of 7 m is mainly used for the investigation of apparent brightness , distance measurement of stars, photometry of obscuring stars and solar observation . It is equipped with a photometer for this purpose .

Cassegrain GOTO

The Cassegrain reflector telescope is a gift from the Japanese government and is equipped with a computerized alignment ( GOTO ). Spectrometers can be connected to the telescope .

Unitron refractor

With this telescope, which has a lens diameter of 13 cm, lunar eclipses , solar eclipses and sunspots are observed.
