Botryobasidium chilense is a mushroom species from the family of grape basidia relatives (Botryobasidiaceae). It forms resupinate, cobweb-like fruiting bodies thatgrowon dead wood . Botryobasidium chilense has a species area in the Chilean southern Patagonia . The anamorphic of the species is known under the name Haplotrichum chilense .
features
Macroscopic features
Botryobasidium chilense has whitish to ivory-colored, spider-like fruiting bodies that grow resupinate (i.e. completely adjacent) on their substrate and appear slightly reticulate under the magnifying glass.
Microscopic features
As with all grape basidia , the hyphae structure of Botryobasidium chilense is monomitic , i.e. it only consists of generative hyphae that branch out at right angles. The basal hyphae are hyaline , usually 6–9 µm wide and not encrusted. The 6–7 µm thick subhymenial hyphae are hyaline , short-celled, thin-walled and cyanophilic. The species does not have cystids or buckles . The rarely six-, mostly eight-pore basidia of the species grow in nests, are 13–15 × 3.5–8 µm in size, are ellipsoidal to ovate and simply septate at the base. The spores are narrow spindle-shaped to elliptical, slightly concave and usually 8–12 × 4.5–6 µm in size. They are smooth and thin-walled and have a distinct extension.
distribution
The known distribution of Botryobasidium chilense includes the Chilean part of southern Patagonia .
ecology
Botryobasidium chilense is a saprobiont that colonizes dead wood . The exact substrate spectrum of this grape base is not known.
