Botryobasidium globosisporum is a mushroom species from the family of grape basidia relatives (Botryobasidiaceae). It forms resupinate, cobweb-like fruiting bodies thatgrowon dead wood . Botryobasidium globosisporum has so far only been found in Gabon . The anamorphic of the species is not yet known.
features
Macroscopic features
Botryobasidium globosisporum has cream-colored to light yellowish, flour-dust-like or spider-like fruiting bodies, which grow resupinate ( i.e. completely adjacent) on their substrate and appear slightly reticulate under the magnifying glass.
Microscopic features
As with all grape basidia , the hyphae structure of Botryobasidium globosisporum is monomitic , i.e. it consists only of generative hyphae that branch out at right angles. The basal hyphae are hyaline to slightly yellowish, mostly 7.5–12.5 µm wide and not encrusted. The up to 6–10 µm thick subhymenial hyphae are hyaline , thin-walled and cyanophilic. The species has neither cystids nor buckles . The four-pore basidia of the species grow in nests, are 12–20 × 7–9 µm in size, are slightly waisted in the middle and simply septate at the base. The spores are approximately spherical, slightly flattened on the sides and 5–6 × 4.5–5.5 µm in size. They are smooth, thin-walled and have a distinct extension. They are hyaline when young, yellowish when old.
distribution
The known distribution of Botryobasidium globosisporum only includes the West African Gabon .
ecology
Botryobasidium globosisporum is a saprobiont that colonizes dead wood . The substrate spectrum is not known in detail.
