Gerhard Probst

Gerhard Probst (born October 1, 1912 in Beiersdorf , Upper Lusatia , † February 21, 2002 in Berlin ) was a German radio official and deputy minister for post and telecommunications in the GDR .

Life

Probst, the son of a locksmith , learned after visiting the elementary school the profession of precision mechanic , attended the college for precision mechanics and electrical engineering in Dresden and qualified as an engineer. Probst was a member of the Workers' Radio Association .

From 1946 to 1951 he was sound engineer and technical director at MDR , state broadcaster Dresden, and from 1951/52 chief engineer and head of the main technology department at the general directorate of broadcasting, then until 1956 at the state broadcasting committee of the GDR. From November 1953 to July 1954 he headed the television center in Berlin-Adlershof as the successor to Hermann Zilles . From 1956 to 1974 he was Deputy Minister for Post and Telecommunications, Radio and Television. During his tenure, color television was introduced in the GDR in October 1969 , but the SECAM system was used , unlike in the Federal Republic of Germany .

Probst was also chairman of the technical commission of the Organization Internationale de Radiodiffusion et de Télévision (OIRT).

Probst was a member of the SED .
