Gerhard Frost

Gerhard Frost (born September 24, 1920 in Deutsch Steine , district of Ohlau , Lower Silesia ; † January 23, 1988 ) was a SED politician who , among other things, was the second secretary of the SED district leadership in the Halle district between 1958 and 1968 .

Life

Frost, son of a ship's helmsman, graduated after attending the elementary school 1934-1937, a vocational training to locksmith and then worked until 1944 in this profession. He was drafted into military service in the Wehrmacht during the Second World War in 1944 and was a prisoner of war in Italy , England and West Germany from April 1945 to December 1946 .

After his release from captivity, Frost worked from January 1947 to March 1949 as a fire fighter for the professional fire brigade in Lutherstadt Wittenberg , where he was acting head of political culture from March 1949 to November 1950 and finally fire chief at the People's Police . In January 1947 he joined the SED as a member and in 1950 completed a course at the SED state party school in Saxony-Anhalt and then from 1950 to 1953 a distance learning course at the party college "Karl Marx" . In addition to his studies, he was secretary of the SED company party organization of the Piesteritz nitrogen works between November 1950 and March 1951 and, after a brief activity as cultural director of ABUS, a company for equipment for mining and heavy industry in Dessau , between August 1951 and June 1952, second secretary of the SED - District management of the Buna works .

He then took on the role of First Secretary of the SED district leadership in the Wittenberg district in 1952 and was first secretary of the SED district leadership of the Buna works from July 1953 to March 1956, which became VEB Chemische Werke Buna in 1954 . At the fourth party congress of the SED from March 30 to April 6, 1954 he was elected as a candidate for the Central Committee.

After further studies at the party college of the CPSU from 1956 to 1957, Frost acted from 1957 to 1958 as first secretary of the SED district leadership of the VEB Leuna-Werke "Walter Ulbricht" (LWWU). At the fifth SED party congress from July 10 to 16, 1958, he was elected a member of the Central Committee and belonged to it until the SED tenth party congress from April 11 to 26, 1981. In 1958 he became the second secretary of the SED district leadership in the Halle district and as such was deputy to the first secretaries of the SED district leadership there until 1968, Franz Bruk , Bernard Koenen and Horst Sindermann .

In 1968 he began studying at the Berlin School of Economics (HfÖ) and graduated in 1969 with a degree in economics . Frost then succeeded Richard Eyermann as Chairman of the SED District Party Control Commission (BPKK) in the Magdeburg district in 1969 and remained in this position for ten years until 1979. From February 1979 to February 1981 he was only a simple member of the SED district leadership in Magdeburg.

Frost died at the age of 67 and was buried in the Westfriedhof Magdeburg .
