Botryobasidium longisporum is a mushroom species from the family of grape basidia relatives (Botryobasidiaceae). It forms resupinate, cobweb-like fruiting bodies thatgrowon Dendrocalamus giganteus . The distribution area of Botryobasidium longisporum includes a neotropical area. No anamorph of the species is known.
features
Macroscopic features
Botryobasidium longisporum has whitish, yellowish, spinelike and thin fruiting bodies that grow resupinate (i.e. completely adjacent) on their substrate and appear slightly reticulated under the magnifying glass.
Microscopic features
As with all grape basidia , the hyphae structure of Botryobasidium longisporum is monomitic, i.e. it consists exclusively of generative hyphae that branch out at right angles. The basal hyphae are usually 5–10 µm wide, hyaline , thick-walled and not encrusted. The 5–10 µm thick subhymenial hyphae are hyaline and thin-walled. Like most grape basidia, the species does not have cystides or buckles . The six- to eight-pore basidia of the species grow in nests, are 18-25 × 9-11 µm in size and are cylindrical to constricted. The spores are sub-cylindrically shaped, 10–13 × 3–4 µm in size, hyaline, smooth and thin-walled.
distribution
The known distribution area of Botryobasidium longisporum only includes Taiwan .
ecology
Botryobasidium longisporum is a saprobiont that grows on the wood of Dendrocalamus giganteus .
