Saint Botvid in the church of Ytterselö

Botvid (* on Södertörn; † 1120 on the island of Rogö , Sweden ) was a Swedish, Catholic saint and with Eskil the second patron saint of Södermanland .

Born as the son of pagan parents on Södertörn , he is said to have become a Christian on a trade trip in England and subsequently went on missions in Sweden. A Wendish slave he bought free and taught in Christian doctrine , whom he wanted to send to his homeland as a missionary, is said to have killed him with an ax on the island of Rogö in Mälaren .

His remains are now in the church of Botkyrka , which his brother had built as Botvidakirkia . The place was later called Botkyrka based on this, and the current municipality also has Botvid in its coat of arms.

presentation
