Bouira ( Arabic البويرة; tifinagh : ⵜⵓⵠⵉⵔⴻⵜ) is a northern Algerian provincial capital with approx. 80,000 inhabitants and the capital of a municipality (commune) consisting of several villages with a total of approx. 100,000 inhabitants in the province of the same name ( wilaya ) . Bouira is the third most important city in Kabylia after Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia .
Location and climate
The city of Bouira is located on the south side of the Tell Atlas , or more precisely the Djurdjura range , at an altitude of approx. 500 to 550 m . The climate is mostly temperate to warm; Rain (approx. 660 mm / year) falls mainly in the winter half-year.

Since the 1960s, Bouira has experienced a strong immigration of families from the rural regions of Algeria.
economy
Agriculture in the area is mainly characterized by grain and oil production; the livestock that is still in operation mostly takes place in stables. Traders, craftsmen and service providers of all kinds have settled in the city.
history
There are small finds from Roman times , from which, however, no permanent settlement can be concluded. Under the rule of the Ottomans (from 1554) the place inhabited by Berbers was a fortified outpost of the army. From 1830 to 1962 Bouira was part of the French colony of Algeria ; the French used the fort (Bordj Hamza) for their purposes. In 1974 Bouira became the capital of the newly created province.
Attractions
Only the star-shaped fortress Bordj Hamza is of a certain cultural and historical importance. Four of the eight star points can be reached via stairs, the others via battlements .
