Boutros Gemayel

Boutros Gemayel (born June 29, 1932 in Ain el Kharroube , Lebanon ) is a retired Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus .

Life

Boutros Gemayel received on 12 April 1959, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

In 1988 he was appointed Archbishop of the Archeparchy of Cyprus by Pope John Paul II and thus head of the Maronite Archdiocese based in Nicosia . He was ordained bishop by Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir , Patriarch of the Maronites of Lebanon; Co- consecrators were his predecessors Archbishop Elie Farah and Joseph Mohsen Béchara , Archbishop of Antélias of the Maronites in Lebanon.

On October 29, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. Gemayel's application for resignation submitted for reasons of age.
