Joseph Mohsen Béchara (born March 19, 1935 in Arbet Kozhaya , Lebanon , † June 9, 2020 ) was a Lebanese clergyman and Maronite archbishop of Antelia .

Life

After his theological training, Joseph Mohsen Béchara received the sacrament of ordination on April 19, 1963 .

On April 4, 1986 he was appointed Archbishop of the Archeparchy of Cyprus by Pope John Paul II and was head of the Maronite Archdiocese based in Nicosia . He was ordained bishop by the Maronite Patriarch of Antioch , Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir , on May 18 of the same year; Co- consecrators were the bishop of Jounieh , Chucrallah Harb , and the auxiliary bishop in Antioch, Roland Aboujaoudé .

On June 11, 1988, he was appointed the first archbishop of the Antelien Archeparchy near Beirut, which was established on the same date . On June 16, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related resignation.

Joseph Mohsen Béchara had played an essential role as head of the Qurnat Shahwan Collection , a political group in Lebanon that includes politicians, intellectuals and business people. He died of a fall at the age of 85.
