Boyd Estus

Boyd Estus (born June 18, 1941 in the United States ) is an American cameraman , a specialist in so-called docudramas .

Live and act

Estus learned his trade in the early 1960s and then began shooting his first television films for the NET Playhouse series. However, he quickly focused his attention on documentary films, where Boyd Estus mainly dealt with historical and technical-scientific topics. Estus worked on television for American and British (especially the BBC ) clients and received numerous awards, including the Emmy , the Peabody Award and the Hugo Award . His most respected US clients include the National Geographic Society , the Smithsonian Institution , the History Channel , and the Public Broadcasting Serviceand the Discovery Channel .

For working on the hour-long documentary Eight Minutes to Midnight: A Portrait of Dr. Helen Caldicott , a portrait of the Australian doctor of the same name and anti-nuclear weapon activist, Estus received an Oscar nomination for Best Full-Length Documentary in 1982 together with director Mary Benjamin and producer Susanne Simpson . At the same time as he started his professional life in 1967, Boyd Estus had a partnership with Heliotrope Studios Ltd. also founded his own small production company in Newton Upper Falls, Mass.
