The Brücke / Most Foundation ( Czech most = bridge) is a non-profit foundation under civil law based in Dresden . The foundation also has branches in Freiburg im Breisgau and Prague . The foundation was founded in 1997 by the Freiburg political scientist Helmut Köser with the aim of bringing the young generations of the Czech Republic and Germany closer together and learning from the past to shape a peaceful future in Europe together. As the ongoing low interest rate policy of the European Central Bank makes it impossible to continue working with the income from the foundation capital, it will cease operations at the end of 2017. The Brücke / Most Foundation was put on the Red List by the German Cultural Council in October 2017 and classified in Category 1 ( threatened with closure ).

The foundation was established on August 4, 1997 when Gertrud and Helmut Köser signed the foundation business.

The political changes of the 1990s, in particular the Neighborhood Treaty of 1992 and the Declaration of Reconciliation of 1997, created the conditions for a new way of living between Germans and Czechs on the basis of mutual tolerance and respect. The private Brücke / Most Foundation aims to support and promote cooperation with the Czech Republic and the other Eastern Central European reform states and their integration into the European Union .

The headquarters is Dresden, where they also the bridge / Most center coordinates: ' "58.54 51 ° 2  N , 13 ° 48' 36.23"  O operates. The foundation also has branches in Freiburg and, since May 2003, also in Prague .

The Prague office of “Nadace Brücke / Most” was set up at the request of the founder Köser. Since 2007 it has served as an information and contact office for young people traveling to Prague, and its activities focus on meeting young people from the Czech Republic. In Prague contacts are made with Czech school classes and a topic-oriented and educational program on the city of Prague is offered.

The Brücke / Most Center in Dresden will be closed at the end of August 2017. The Brücke-Institut gGmbH will be dissolved by the end of 2017.

purpose

The purpose of the foundation is funding

  • cultural cooperation between Germany and the Czech Republic,
  • public and vocational education including student aid,
  • the encounter between Germans and Czechs, the exchange of information about their countries and an educational institution with the purpose of promoting understanding between the German and Czech people and
  • research in the field of German-Czech relations and their scientific processing.

The foundation is not a grant-making foundation, but operates through its Brücke Institute. She is involved in the fields of culture and science. The areas of activity were broken down as follows:

  1. Culture
  2. Communication and networking
  3. Education and encounter
  4. Knowledge.

The implementation takes place via projects, conferences, seminars and encounters that are carried out independently and / or with cooperation partners.

In addition, the Brücke / Most Foundation, together with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), awards six scholarships for students at the “Carl Maria von Weber” University of Music . Since October 2001, six Czech and Slovak students at the university have received a monthly grant.

Benefactor

The Freiburg political scientist Helmut Köser was a lecturer at the Department of Scientific Policy at the University of Freiburg from 1970–2005 , first as a research assistant (1970–1973), then as an academic adviser (1973–1990). From 1990–1996, Köser headed the “Institute for Communal Planning and Development (IfK) GmbH” in Dresden, which he founded.

As chairman of the foundation's board of directors, he has been committed to promoting German-Czech understanding and cooperation since 1997. With the foundation, Köser wanted to make a contribution to improving German-Czech relations. Experience with students from Central and Eastern European countries in his seminars led Köser to take on young people, especially from the Czech Republic.

Köser is chairman of the foundation's board of directors together with Paul Selbherr , lawyer (member of the board) and Peter Baumann, political scientist (member of the board and managing director). He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on July 14, 2007 by the Saxon Prime Minister Georg Milbradt in Dresden.
